We are humbled by the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Florence. We are grateful for the ways in which our community has been spared, and we are ready to do what we can to aid in rebuilding our community.
For our community members returning to Wilmington and Eastern North Carolina, please note that the driving situation here is still very dangerous. Very few street lights are working, some roads are still impassible. Stores and gas stations are opening but are unsure of when they will be restocked once they run out of supplies and gas. Please do not feel pressured to rush back. We want for everyone to be as safe as possible.
Once you decide it is a safe time for you to return and are wanting to know what you can bring, please bring enough supplies and food to take care of yourself for 5-7 days. If you don’t know if that is possible, then stay where you are for another day or two. If you can bring that, bring enough to share with your neighbors. Check on your neighbors when you get back. These are things to bring for you, your neighbors, and to donate to places receiving supplies:
Gasoline (please bring enough to fill your chainsaws and generators and cars- there is not much gas here and most of it is reserved for first responders) ( and yes, many of us are still without power)
Food for your allergen friends- it sounds silly but if someone has a severe nut/gluten/or dairy allergy they may be truly struggling for sustenance now
