ByTaylor White

What if we told you that there were weeds growing in your backyard that are not only edible, but chock full of vitamins and minerals that actually taste delicious as well?! You would probably think we're crazy, but it's true! Our Mother Earth is truly a wonder; and it never ceases to amaze us. We promise that crafting this "backyard salad" will be the most fun you've ever had, and you'll learn so much about the plants growing right outside your back door. This salad is also sure to please the eye thanks to many beautiful edible flowers, as well.

Here are links to a couple of websites detailing edible greens and flowers so that you’ll be able to identify them properly!

Edible green - chickweed
Edible weeds to forage
Edible Flowers

*Some of my favorites include purslane, chickweed and dandelion. As far as flowers go – marigold (calendula), borage and red clover!

 Simple dressing recipe:
¼ cup olive oil
splash of apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s is a great brand – you want it with the “mother”!)
juice from one lemon
3 garlic cloves, minced
Salt + Pepper

Put all ingredients in a jar, top with lid and give it a good shake.

Let us know how your “Backyard Salad” turns out!

*Best supplied by an au natural or organic garden! If your backyard is treated with chemicals or pesticides, consider using someone else's backyard :)
