What's your favorite yoga pose?

My favorite every day pose is Virabhadrasana 3 (Warrior 3) because when I first began yoga this pose was my least favorite. I simply could not hold this pose to save my life. But over time I have found it to be one of my most stable and comfortable asanas. Proof that practice and patience pays off.

What is yoga to you?

For me, yoga is a safety net because I know that no matter what happens in my life I will always have yoga. It’s like therapy. Even when I don’t know what I need yoga has a way of bringing things to the surface.
What brought you to yoga?

I began yoga about 3 years ago when my husband and I moved to NC from Austin, TX. I wasn’t working, had no friends here and found myself kind of lost. Then I took a yoga class and it changed my life.

Can you give us an example of your yoga off the mat?

Off the mat I make a conscious effort to be mindful of everything; which can be really exhausting but also really rewarding. In doing so, I keep my diet as fair trade and plant based as I can and have been vegetarian for about a year. I also strive to understand, be compassionate and respectful to all beings no matter what.

Specific classes/style of teaching:

I identify as a power teacher. I love a challenge because I’m comfortable with defeat. Every day is different and in a power class I can really gauge how I’m feeling. If I’m having a weak day in a power class, that’s ok!

 Your invitation to the population:

I invite you to join us at Longwave Yoga. The staff and the beautiful space are just so special. If you’re seeking more from this life you can find it at Longwave Yoga.

What superhero would you be?

I would be a muse! That’s not really a super hero but what’s better than inspiring people?
What’s your spirit animal and why?

Definitely a mermaid because they can communicate with marine life in a way we could never imagine. Also who doesn’t love a nice majestic mermaid?

If you could speak to only one type of animal (other than a human) what would it be?

Dogs for sure. I love my fur babies.

Who would you consider a role model for you?

I’d have to say Ellen Degeneras, her compassionate heart never ceases to inspire me.

What is the best way to lift your mood? /What is your happy place?

The best way to lift my mood is by practicing yoga. My happy place is being outdoors with my husband.

What is your biggest talent?

I’m really comfortable talking to people. Whether I’m speaking to 1 person or 100,000 people I don’t really think twice about it.

Where was your last vacation?

I went home to Texas this past November for my best friend’s wedding and it was absolutely glorious.

Happiest moment in your life?

The happiest moment in my life was the summer of 2013. I graduated college, got married, moved to NC and most importantly didn’t have to be in a long distance relationship anymore.

If you could learn to do something new, what would it be?

I really want to learn how to speak Spanish. I grew up in Texas, took 3 years of Spanish in High School and 4 years of Spanish in college. I have a minor in International Studies and am still not fluid in the language. Maybe I should get Rosetta Stone.

Biggest life lesson so far?

I don’t know everything!

The best part of waking up is?

What is your favorite hobby (non-yoga related)?

Hiking, traveling and making dreamcatchers.
