Practicing yoga can expand the quality of your mind body connection and awareness. A regular yoga practice may improve your overall health and wellness while increasing strength and flexibility. Students could also see reduced levels of stress and a better capacity to breathe, which can enhance relaxation.
Yoga studios are typically peaceful, sacred spaces where students can unwind and center. Be sure to check in at the front desk and take your shoes off before entering the studio. If you come to a class late, please come in after the class has finished meditation or OM-ed. Above all; be respectful and mindful of what’s going on around you.
Someone new to yoga may want to start out taking a beginner, gentle, basic, healthy bodies, or slow flow class depending on your approach to physical activity. These classes offer modifications and options so that all levels are welcome and comfortable. If you can, pull your teacher aside and let them know you are new to yoga so that they are aware and can help you if you need it.
Yoga involves movement of the body, so wear clothing that you are comfortable moving around in. Typical yoga clothing is stretchy and somewhat form fitting as forward bends and twists may cause the garment to shift. Consider the temperature of the class and the amount of movement it will include.
Yoga students usually bring a mat, water, and a towel to class with them. Our studio provides props that can be beneficial during class, as well as mats and towels for rent. We also sell water bottles if you need to rehydrate.
Yoga is for everyone! Young and old, we can all benefit from practicing yoga. The more you practice, the more you will gain the flexibility and the knowledge to modify your practice to fit your own abilities.
With a regular practice, yoga may help with losing weight by becoming increasingly mindful and aware of your own body when practicing meditation and asana (yoga postures or poses). Though weight loss is very complex, yoga has the power to transform.
People often come to yoga because of injuries though not all classes may be beneficial while healing. Be sure to check in with your doctor or healthcare provider before starting a yoga practice with an injury. It would be a good idea to also let your teacher know the area and extent of your injury so they can best offer specific modifications and options.
Practicing yoga while you’re pregnant can be a wonderful, nurturing experience but make sure to check in with your doctor or healthcare provider before starting your yoga practice. While we do not offer pre/postnatal yoga specifically, our teachers are able to make modifications and provide a range of options to try. Make sure to let your instructor know how far along you are and if you have any adverse reactions or symptoms.
The studio, upon registration, provides SUP boards specifically designed for SUP yoga. For guys, board shorts or bathing suits are just fine. For ladies, bathing suits (one or two-piece) would work great with the recommendation of wearing spandex shorts to ensure complete coverage. Sports bras are also a great option. If you want to wear leggings, tanks or t-shirts, you may want to make sure they are light and breathable as falling in the water is possible.
Students may wish to bring his/her mat, towel or sheet to practice at the beach. Water and an extra towel for sweat would be beneficial as well. Be aware that the practice will occur outside, so you may choose to bring sunscreen and/or a hat. For a dip in the ocean after, a bathing suit is recommended
Yoga is typically practiced on an empty stomach so try eating about two hours in advance. If time is tight and you feel like you need to eat a little something: fruits like bananas or apples, nuts such as almonds, or an energy/granola bar are great options.
Our studio provides yoga towels to rent that cover your mat to prevent slipping, but there are also many different styles on the market but any towel will do. Some mats are also more slip resistant than others.
